129-emerald-color-yearWith a new year on the horizon come many things to look forward to.  Among them, successful New Year’s resolutions, ski excursions, Valentine’s day, new spring fashion trends…there is ALWAYS something to look forward to.  Usually, we look forward to trends that have to do with or influence kitchen and bath remodeling (go figure).

That’s why we’re excited to see the PANTONE® pick for 2013 new color of the year.  A few months back, we blogged about the Benjamin Moore color of the year, Lemon Sorbet – 2019-60, a crisp and refreshing color (as if the name doesn’t give that away) to add to your rooms.

A new color for a new year

Now it’s time to say goodbye to Pantone’s previous bold color of the year, Tangerine Tango 17-1463 (these names sure are making me hungry), and welcome the newcomer.  Can I get a drum roll please…The new Pantone color of the year for 2013 is PANTONE® 17-5641 Emerald.  According to the Pantone website, the color is, “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony.”

It is always interesting to learn the color pick, and almost more so, the reasoning behind the colors and how they are influenced by the economy.  In 2011, the Pantone color of the year was PANTONE 18-2120 Honeysuckle, which, mentioned on the Pantone website, “encourages us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor.”  According to the Pantone Color of the Year for 2013 press release earlier this month, “The 2012 Color of the Year, PANTONE 17-1463 Tangerine Tango, a spirited, reddish orange, provided the energy boost we needed to recharge and move forward. Emerald, a vivid, verdant green, enhances our sense of well-being further by inspiring insight, as well as promoting balance and harmony.”

Whatever the reasoning, we’re excited to see the creative ways in which designers and homeowners incorporate the lively color into their kitchen, bath and other rooms, making others “green” with envy. View our Pinterest board for paint and color pop ideas and some more looks at the colors.
