Before you install your hardware, you should consider functionality and make sure it’s aesthetically pleasing to you. This space after all, is supposed to be one that is exactly how you want it.
So take some time to think about the type of hardware you want and how you can install it to be most effective for you.
Observe Placements
Before you decide where you want to install the hardware, take a look to see where others have placed theirs. Observe the difference in spacing and see what visually pleases you. Once you’ve found a few options that you like, take measurements and note the exact placement. Then, in your own kitchen, use a pencil to mark where the hardware will go. This will give you a visual representation of where the pull or knob will sit and eliminates multiple holes from being drilled into your cabinets before the correct placement is chosen.
Keep in mind when you are looking at other cabinet hardware, the detailing on the door might be different than yours and could limit the ability for you to use that placement.
General Measurements
In general, placement for wall cabinet knobs and pulls is 2 ½ to 3 inches from the bottom edge that is opposite the hinge. This can be adjusted to consider height of those who are using the cabinets. If someone taller is going to use the cabinets, you can move the knob or pull further up. The opposite goes for someone shorter using the cabinets – move the knobs and pulls down. When it comes to how far in you should place the knob, standard placement is ¼ to ½ inches from the edge of the door that is opposite the hinge. The same placement can be used for base cabinets, except you would place the knob or pull on the top edge of the door that is opposite the hinges.
